Antique Filigree Blue Stone Bangle – Yes I am nearly 100 years old – believe it or not
Early 1900s – 1920s
Stunning Antique Bracelet Filigree Design White Metal with Rhodium Coating to keep it white. Claw set multi faceted blue centre Stone resembling a Blue sapphire Stone is most probably paste or crystal.
White metals were all the rage at this time in history as was filigree. Jewellery makers used a Rhodium overlay to keep the pieces shiny and bright and is used today to coat white gold and sterling to keep it bright. (Pure Rhodium is too brittle to use in jewellery) Rhodium is the most expensive metal in the world even out ranking Platinum and Palladium. The base metals were usually sterling, white gold or platinum and is unknown unless filed into which would damage the item.
The bangle opens and snaps shut securely. You lift the cartouche up and slide out the inner metal bar then put over the hand and slide back to secure. A bit fiddly, maybe the maid used to assist. But well worth it once on.
Very Good antique vintage condition These rhodium coated pieces of jewellery were made to last and as the photos show – they do.
The bangle is 17.cms or 6.75 inches on the inner circumference and the bangle is 1.5cm wide. Weighs 13.8gms. Blue stone is 1cm long.
