Antique early 1900s Art Nouveau Blue Stone Filigree Rhodium Lavalier Necklace.
The lavalier has been made with intricate filigree work and a centre multi faceted claw set untested blue topaz coloured stone. The stone is untested and sold as is. The item dates to the Art Nouveau period of the early 1900s to early 1930s.
Jewellery makers used a Rhodium overlay to keep the pieces shiney and bright (Pure Rhodium is too brittle to use in jewellery) Rhodium is the most expensive metal in the world even outranking Platinum and Palladium. The base metal to this piece is unknown, white gold, sterling and other white metals were used and it is impossible to tell without filing the pieces which damages them. This is the cross over period between the Art Nouveau and Art Deco jewellery period.
The lavalier is attached a white metal chain which has an old fashioned clasp that works as it should.
The lavalier is 5cms long including the bail and the chain is 42cms or 16.25 inches long.
