Antique Filigree Sterling Silver with Rhodium Overlay Rock Crystal Necklace & Earrings Set.
early 1900s, Art Nouveau era.
White metals were all the rage at this time as was filigree. Jewellery makers used a Rhodium overlay to keep the pieces shiney and bright (Pure Rhodium is too brittle to use in jewellery) Rhodium is the most expensive metal in the world even outranking Platinum and Palladium.
The necklace is marked Sterling on the clasp and has a jewellers mark that looks like an R. There are other marks to the clasp that are too small to read even under my loupe. The pendant necklace and matching drop earrings have been set in sterling and have a rhodium overlay. The set has the distinctive paper clip chain from that period and filigree work. The earrings have also been stamped or carved with a flower resembling a violet. The earrings are simply marked sterling. The stones which are multi faceted are clear of bubbles but are untested and maybe lemon quartz or rock crystal but sold as is.
The necklace is 43cms or just under 17 inches long. The drop to the end of the pendant is another 4.5cms. The pendant itself is 2.5cms by 1.5cms. The earrings dangle to 4cms long. All measurements are approximate only
